The Department of Commerce and Business Administration, St Agnes College (Autonomous), in collaboration with Origiin IP Academy(OIPA), Bengaluru hosted aInternational Conference on ‘Intellectual Property Rights and Entrepreneurship on January 4th and 5th2019in the college conference hall.

Dr ShashikalaGurpur, Director, Symbiosis Law School Pune, an alumnus of St Agnes Collegewas the chief guest for the inaugural ceremony andDr ShashikalaGurpur in her address emphasised the importance of Intellectual Property Rights for aspiring graduates. She highlighted on Intellectual Property Rights and their importance in various fields of study. She also expressed the evolution of intellectual property and explained its dimension saying 'one who creates knowledge should be able to benefit out of that knowledge.'She mentioned 'the critical dimensions of IPR are, that it creates a property in knowledge.Where there is Intellectual property there is wealth creation.' The Key note speaker of the programme was Ms Anupama Dias Abeyagunawardane , Senior Legal Counsel, Intellectual Property MAS Holdings Group, Sri Lanka. In her address she said 'an entrepreneur is the one who is ready to take risk for his ideas. Intellectual property has been the password for the entrepreneurial community, IP is not only about the patent rights, copy rights or trade marks but it is an intangible creation of human interaction.'

Sr. Dr. Maria Roopa, Joint Secretary, St Agnes Institutions, Mangaluru was the guest of honour andSr. Dr. M Jeswina AC, Principal of St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangalurupresidedthe inaugural and delivered the presidential address. Ms.Bindu Sharma, Registered Patent Agent, Founder and CEO Origin IP solutions LLP, Bengaluru, was also present for the inaugural ceremony. A total of 200 faculty and students from various colleges across the globe participated in the international conference. Mrs Sabina Dsouza, HOD of Business Administration and Convenor of the conference, welcomed the gathering, Mrs Nimitha.K, HOD of Commerce, co-convenor of conference rendered the vote of thanks. Mrs. Sheryl Preethika, Dean for Commerce And Business Administration compered the programme.
