About the College

St Agnes College is a catholic Minority Institution which form its inception has imparted higher education to the women of South India.  It has ever since proved to be a standard bearer of repute in th field.

The instituition hs the distinction of producing women graduates who hold positions in different spheres as educators, scientists, chartered accountants, middle and higher-level management professionals and service professionals.

The College promotes sound social and family values that make for continuous internal upgradation, especially in the areas of teaching and learning, reasearch and publication, faculty improvement and extension activities.  Honours Programmes, Certificate Courses and Minor Research projects, conducted on a regular basis, keep the staff ever alert to the contemporary needs of society and the demands of the job market.  The College took the initiative of submitting itself to the accreditation process conducted by the NAAC.  It was the first instituition in Mangalore University to do so.  The College had the honour of being awarded a 'Five Star' grade.  Following the re-accreditation process by the NAAC in 2005, the College earned an 'A' grade.  It has, besides, been recognised as a 'College with Potential for Excellence' in 2006 and again in 2011 by the Post 'CPE' PHASE II grant by th U. G. C> and been the recipient of the 'Jimmy and Roselyn Carter Foundation Parternship Award' for its path breaking work in the field of watershed management which has greatly benefitted villages in the suburbs of Mangalore.

However, no institution committed to the cause of higher education can rest contended on its laurels.  St. Agnes College is sensitively aware of this. Therfore to promote academic excellence in teaching and research, the Management of St. Agnes College has accepted the status of academic autonomy for the College since 2007.  In the autonomous set up, the College is free to frame its own Syllabi for the various courses and adopt suitable innovative methods of Teaching, Learning and Evaluation.  The Mangalore University confers the degree or gives the diploma to the qualified candidates presented by the College.  The government will continue to provide financial assistance in this set up.  With autonomy, the College will be more efficient to teach job oreinted subjects, conduct examinations and announce results within the prescribed structures of the Semester pattern.
