Rasa Chethana
The Department of Chemistry at St Agnes College organized “Rasa Chetana”, a one Day regional symposium at Conference Hall here on Friday September 2. The symposium focused on rejuvenation of chemistry education in the science curriculum particularly at the secondary level. Eminent educationist Prof. Uday Maitra of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore delivered the key note address.
The progarmme's objectives were to bring the concerned subject experts, teachers and the officials to a common forum. And to deliberate on the issues like - the basics of Chemistry, more importance on application of Chemistry, and less practical orientation than theory. The event also aimed to decide on necessary steps to be taken to make the Chemistry portion more as a practical science, Chemistry teaching with demonstrations and application of Chemistry in day-to-day life.
The symposium was jointly organized by St Agnes College, Text Book Society, DSERT, Govt. of Karnataka and Pilikula Regional Science Centre(R), Mangalore. Coordinator of Text Book Society and noted academician Prof G S Moodambadithaya and educationist cum communicator Prof M R Nagaraju, Bangalore, were moderators at the programme.
