Carmel Counselling Centre

Harmony Club Band & Music Rangers N.C.C. Computer Club

Weekly Mass, monthly Holy Hour, classes in Christian Doctrine and the annual retreat are regular features available to an Agnesian student. Membership to CLC and the Legion of Mary enable students to put Christian precept and values into practice.  The primacy of God, the importance of prayer and the need of selfless service are always upheld.

The College runs the National Service Scheme(NSS) with a unit of 100 members. The NSS provides training in leadership  and service opportunities to the members.  It effectively channels the energy and interest of the students into areas of social, cultural and community development.  Agnesians deem it  a privilege to be members of the NSS.  Members put in 120 hours of work per year and work as volunteers for two consecutive years.  A student who fulfills these conditions is awarded a certificate by the University.  The Mangalore University  makes allowances for students who have a record of service in the NSS to the PG Programmes.

Student discipline and activities are  co-ordinated through the Student Cabinet of the College comprising the Student President, Vice-President and the Association Secretaries.  The Cabinet functions under the direction of the Principal,  Vice-Principal and other Staff Advisors of the different Associations. It is the responsibility of the College Cabinet to uphold academic standards, aim at excellence in all their activities and programmes, in keeping with the objectives and vision of the College.

The College has introduced a 'Women's Cell".  Students,  especially at the Degree level are earnestly exhorted to take an active part in the activities of the Cell. The Cell endeavors to alliveate the negative forces that confront women, both on the campus and in the city. The Women's Cell handles issues related to women's welfare.

Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Among Youth
is a Sub-chapter of the Mangalore Chapter. Parents, staff and students are encouraged to take membership in the same and deepen their love for Indian culture.

This Club seeks to create awareness on environmental issues through its activities. Students are encouraged to take membership in the Nature Club. They are provided opportunities to study and admire the environment and thereby understand the need to conserve nature's bounty.

The AIDS Awareness Education Cell of St. Agnes College attempts to bring about an awareness among students and the public about AIDS Syndrome. The myths and misconceptions about AIDS have caused needless panic and concern among people. The Cell aims to remove the epidemic of fear that haunts the public through its programmes.

The College has established this Cell in view of helping students to get useful and systematic guidance on careers open to them in their respective field of study. The Career Guidance Committee members along with the Co-ordinator of the Cell chalk out various enrichment programmes as well as conduct coaching classes in order to train the students to answer various competitive examinations. An attempt is made to hold campus recruitments for the benefit of those students who are pursuing professional and vocational courses of study. The Cell conducts the following programmes in co-ordination with various departments of the college.

Placement of Students for 2007-2008...

No education at the University level can be complete without Human Rights Education. The degree course includes the study of the Indian Constituition, Human Rights and Environmental Studies. The programmes organised by the Cell complement this study.

Objectives:

  • To educate and create greater awareness of Human Rights
  • To study and examine cases of human rights violation in the Campus
  • To train the interested group to facilitate intervention and action
  • To create a network with other organisations for working in the spirit of solidarity
  • To adopt a process of documentation of different cases of violation so that they can come as a reference material of some other cases in future.

Research is an important element in higher education. The current scenario in education necessitates inculcating the necessary skills and expertise, both among the teaching fraternity and the student community. The R & D cell was inaugurated. The Cell emphasises need to study, analyze, update and apply the tools of research in our educational field.

The objective of the Counselling Centre is to offer help to students,staff, parents and the public to handle academic, emotional and intererpersonal problems. A staff member, trained in counselling is available at the Centre during her free hours on working days/holidays with prior appointment.

Women's Centre aims at empowering and enabling the less fortunate to live a wholesome and dignified life in society. Training programmes in computer applications, typing and skill based courses like fashion designing and sewing are offered to School/Pre-University drop-outs and women. This Centre offers UGC sponsored Vocational Diploma Courses in Travel and Tourism, Applied Psychology and Translation Proficiency for the benefit of our students.

Takes care of grievances of staff and students associated with college life related to facilities, inter-personal problems and general discipline.

The College offers a variety of facilities to promote the well-being of students. The Non-Resident Student Centre (NRSC), HELPLINE, Health Care Centre add to the ambience on the campus. The Library has a facility for Photocopying. The College has a well established internet centre for the benifit of students. The Student's Hostel with a resident student strength of 250 keeps the campus coming with youthful activity. The Language Lab is a pointer to the changing trends in Audio-Video. Eg: Teaching and Learning. The Studio is indicative of yet another move towards self-reliance.

Working towards Peace and Harmony, the students promote peace conciousness across religions, cultures and nations. Through interfaith prayer sessions, lectures discussions and other peace promoting programmes the Harmony Clubs helps in the spread of Peace.

Band & Music Association has 60 Active Members who carry out thier duties with responsibility under the able leadership of Ms. Krystle Miranda of III B.A. During this term, the members met three times. At the First meeting the Plan of Action for the Year was finalised. The Members have been divided into small groups to take up the responsibility of preparing for the Choir during the Campus Mass. They meet regularly to carry out the work assigned to them.

25 Members are also a part of the College Band for whom regular practices have been started from the month of July. The Band Director Mr. Adolphus Lobo takes the classes on every Wednesday and Sunday. At the same time, 6 Students have enrolled in the Honours Programme on "Skills in Musical Instruments".

The Activities organized by the Band & Music Association during the term are:

  • Organized Choir for the Campus Mass every Month.
  • Organized Singing for 5th September 2008 as a part of "Teacher's Day" Celebration.
  • Honour's Programme conducted for Final Year Students.

To continue the guiding spirit and culture among students, promoting nation building activities. 'Be Prepared' for Service is their Motto.

This wil help the Students to not only join the Defence Services, but it will also help NCC Certificate Holders to avail various incentivs by State and Central Government in the field of Academics as well as Employments.
