Nature Club
This Club seeks to create awareness on environmental issues through its activities. Students are encouraged to take membership in the Nature Club. They are provided opportunities to study and admire the environment and thereby understand the need to conserve nature's bounty.
NATURE CLUB
THE NATURE CLUB which has “Nurture Nature” as its motto, observes Environmental Week every year, with activities related to its objectives. They also participated in the ‘Vanamahotsava’ programme organized by Mangalore City Corporation. Competitions are conducted for students to increase their love for nature and develop awareness about its conservation. At the same time, guest lectures by individuals who have made a mark in the area of nature conservation and environmental protection, have been arranged during the last six years. Films based on relevant issues, for example, “Worshipable Plants – Myth or Truth” were screened for members.
As an initiative by the Mangalore Citizen’s Forum, students were exposed to the problems of SEZ, and a signature campaign was mooted as a silent protest against Mangalore SEZ and the same was forwarded to the Ministry of Environment. In 2007-08, a herbal garden was set up under CPE, and this was followed up with training of students in producing value added products like herbal soaps, hair oils, and medicinal formulations. The outcome of herbal education is the publication of “HERBICA” in association with the Department of Botany, and an exhibition on this theme.
Members of the Nature Club attended a workshop on “Mushroom Culture and Value added Products” at Krishi Vignana Kendra, Kankanady. Nature study trips to Kundapura Nisargadhama, Madikeri and Kudremukh were meant to educate the students on the use of natural resources, managing of water hotspots, proper disposal of waste, reduction of plastic waste and water management. The Eco-magazine “NISARGA” is an annual magazine compiled by students with a theme chosen for every year and includes related articles, poems, paintings, etc. contributed by members.
