Agnofest 2012
Bonne Volonte - Cirque




A two-day national-level inter-collegiate Agno Fest "Bonne Volonte Cirque- 2012" for Arts, Management, Commerce and Science students, was inaugurated in St Agnes College, Bendur here on December 7.
The programme began with an invocation by the students of St Agnes College. A welcome dance 'Circus' was performed by the students. The students handed over the "Bonne Volonte Cirque- 2012" Trophy to the Students President Falan Lasrado who then declared the fest open.
Staff coordinator Prof. Malavika Shetty welcomed the gathering. Music director and singer Gurukiran unveiled the model and declared the competition open.
Addressing the gathering Gurukiran said, "I was not a performer, but when I competed in school singing competition, I won the third place. That was my first ever prize in singing, since then I got interest in competitions". We need to make use of the opportunities and participate in competitions. Once we finish our college life, we lose everything, our college friends, teachers, activities in the college. He urged the students to study hard and be the best students in the college. He enthralled the crowd with his melodious songs.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Dr Sr Prem said that Agnofest intercollegiate fest is a part of the college life. Such events bring out the best in the students. Further recalling the quote of Rabindranath Tagore, "I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold, service was joy.” She further said with a sense of duty every staff co-ordinator as well as students co-ordinators have worked relentlessly for the Agno fest. Good co-operation amongst them have led to 'Bonne Volonte Cirque'.
Further she said that the youth force is the greatest weapon that our country possesses. Our youth are our greatest resource. Love unites us all, binds our youth together, and shows the world that youth force can change the world and make it a better place to live in.
Each of us must be the change and we wish to see the changing world. Students show us infinite capacity to change, to grow to adjust to new situations. May the capacity of change, build a better world.

St. Agnes College, Mangalore, Karnataka is one of the leading first grade colleges for women in South India. It is a Christian minority institution founded by Mother Mary Aloysia, in 1921, and managed by the Sisters of the Apostolic Carmel. Though it was founded primarily for the education of Catholic women, it has reached out to all sections of women in society. Over the years, it has grown steadily in strength and infrastructure and has stood the vicissitudes of higher education and has kept aloft its banner 'God is Our Strength'. The focus now is on student centered learning, throwing open newer avenues and challenging courses to suit the student community.

St. Agnes, the Virgin - Martyr is the patroness of this Institution. Her purity of life, modesty, truthfulness and steadfastness are the virtues, which our young women are called to live out in their lives.
Autonomy:
To promote academic excellence in teaching and research, the Management of St. Agnes College has accepted the status of academic autonomy for the College from the year 2007-08. In the autonomous set up, the college is free to frame its own Syllabi for the various courses and adopt suitable innovative methods of Teaching, Learning and Evaluation. The Mangalore University confers the degree or gives the diploma to the qualified candidates presented by the College. The government will continue to provide financial assistance in this set up. With autonomy, the College will be more efficient to teach job oriented subjects, conduct examinations and announce results within the prescribed structures of the Semester pattern.
Campus Life:
The College offers the Semester degree programmes in B.A., B.Sc., B.Com., B.B.M., B.C.A. and B.S.W. In addition to these regular programmes, there is scope for students to choose from an array of Certificate or Diploma Courses. The Honours Programme is introduced to circulate research culture and earn extra credits.
Partnership with IGNOU & KSOU Study Centre:
The College has a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with IGNOU for a number of UG/PG and Certificate Courses. These are available to students as add on courses. The KSOU Study Centre offers BCA, MCA and Integrated MCA at St. Agnes College, Mangalore.
Education to be:
Everyday and each hour begins with a spiritual orientation of silence leading to prayer. One's attitude to the divine, in relation to God as Father is strengthened by the realization that we are his children. To live as worthy citizens and be effective role models to others. It is emphasized through the prayer over the PAS, weekly religion and moral science classes, value education classes and programmes pertaining to inter-religious peace and harmony.
Education to do:
Each (core) subject combination is supplemented amply by co-curricular and extra curricular programmes. Learning by doing encourage the students to plan, probe, verify, and experiment on a wide spectrum of issues. Dialogue, discussions and debates provide awareness for thinking and action.
Education for Interaction:
Education builds the student and through her the society in which she lives. The socio-economic and cultural programmes invite our students to forge new relationships and strengthen those that exist in a mature, responsible way. While education forms persons, the college makes special efforts to mould them into individuals who are called to bear, to care and to share.
