NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

THE NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (N.S.S.) focuses on the development of the personality of students through community service. Hence their activities cover a wide range of areas The College runs the National Service Scheme(NSS) with a unit of 100 members. The NSS provides training in leadership and service opportunities to the members. It effectively channels the energy and interest of the students into areas of social, cultural and community development. Agnesians deem it a privilege to be members of the NSS. Members put in 120 hours of work per year and work as volunteers for two consecutive years. A student who fulfills these conditions is awarded a certificate by the University. The Mangalore University makes allowances for students who have a record of service in the NSS to the PG Programmes.

STREET PLAY

NSS Volunteers of the College took up the initiative to voice this issue by performing a street play on 24th September at 3.45 p.m. They created awareness about cleanliness and what are the ill effects of unclean surrounding. The chief Guest were Principal Sr. Dr. M Jeswina AC and Sr. Dr. Venissa, Vice Principal.

PAINTING COMPETITION

NSS Unit organized painting competitions on 24th September,2018.Around 30 NSS volunteers participated in this competition. The main theme of this competition was Cleanliness. The first place was bagged by Vaibhavi of 2ndBcom and Ancilla of 1stBcom and second place was bagged by Supreetha of 2ndBcom, Anisha of 2nd BBA and Shreya of 1st Bcom.

NSS FEST-AAKRITHI-2018

The NSS Unit of the College, conducted for the first time an intercollegiate NSS fest 'Aakrithi' on 27th August 2018. Sr. M Supriya AC, Principal of Carmel College, Modankap was the chief guest.Around 8 colleges namely GovindaDasa College, Padua College, Milagres College, MAPS College, Ramakrishna College, Ramakrishna College( PUC), Canara College, Carmel college,Modankap participated. Six different competitions were held like Elocution, Wealth out of waste, Poster making, singing,Folk Dance and Street play.The overall championship was bagged by Govinda Dasa College and the runner ups were Ramakrishna College.

SWACH GELATHI

NSS volunteers took part in the awareness programm -Swach Gelathi.The government of Karnataka initiated the Swachch Gelathi Programme for the high school girl students on 4th August,2018.32 NSS volunteers of our college,who were allotted 14 different schools to talk about what is Menstruation along with personal and menstrual hygiene visited these schools. The NSS volunteers explained to them about the different physical and mental changes they undergo during periods and different ways to handle mood swings,pain etc . The students responded positively.

DRUG AWARENESS PROGRAM

To create awareness among the youth about drugs and its effects, an awareness program was organized by NSS Unit on 21st July, 2018.The Chief Guests of this program were Dr. Kavyashree, HOD of Clinical Psychology, PG Centre at St. Agnes and Ms. Ann Maria. All NSS volunteers attended the program. Dr. Kavyashree addressed the volunteers about how consumption of alcohol has become common in youth, how they fall into the trap of drugs, what are the effects of drug addiction. Ann Maria explained about how Youth can get rid of the drugs by different ways and why it is necessary to spread awareness among the youth.

NSS INAUGURAL 2018-19

NSS inaugural was held on 14th July 2018, at St. Agnes College. The program began at 11 a.m. with a prayer song led by NSS volunteers followed by the lighting of the lamp to invoke God's blessings. All the first and the second year NSS volunteers attended the program. The Chief Guest of the program was Dr. Sanjay Annarao, NSS Program Officer from University College, Mangalore. The Chief Guest was welcomed by NSS Program Coordinator, Mrs. Anitha. After the formal welcome Dr. Sanjay gave a motivational speech on how to bring out our hidden talents through the NSS platform followed by the speech of Principal Sr. Dr. M. Jeswina AC. NSS leaders of 2017-18 were presented with memento for their dedication towards NSS. All the activities carried out in the year 2017-18 were shown in the form of power point presentation. First year NSS volunteers performed skit followed by the Folk Dance. The program concluded at 12p.m. by singing NSS Anthem.
