THE AIDS AWARENESS EDUCATION CELL was started in the year 1999, and as implied by the name, works to create among youth, awareness regarding the prevention of AIDS and care of AIDS victims. The myths and misconceptions about AIDS have caused needless panic and concern among people. The Cell aims to remove the epidemic of fear that haunts the public through its programmes.
Yearly activities of the Cell include Orientation for New Members, Training of Educators, Educative Sessions, relevant competitions, conduct of AIDS Awareness Week, and relevant competitions, conduct of AIDS Awareness Week, and visits to rehabilitation centres and hospitals. The Cell collaborated to form the Red Cross Society and together they organize blood donation camps and field visits and serve society in various ways
Activities 2015 - 2016
Blood Donation Camp:
The AIDS Awareness Education Cell in association with the Red Cross Society, NSS Units, Fr.Muller Medical College Hospital, United Friends Club, Bejai and the Lions, Lioness and Leo Club of Mangalore organized a one day Blood Donation Camp on 11 th August 2015 in the College auditorium.

The following activities were organized during the academic year 2016-2017:
The AIDS Awareness Education Cell & the Red Cross Unit began its activities on July 2nd 2016 with an orientation programme for its members. The Staff Coordinator Mrs.Prajwal Rao briefed the students about the origin and historical outline of Red Cross and motivated them to take part in all the activities of the Cell.
Educative session on HIV/AIDS and Antidrug addiction
On July 9th and 30th 2016, the staff coordinator along with the student secretary briefed the students on the importance of 'International day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' which is observed every year on the 26th of June. Various aspects like types of drugs, their psychological effect on the youth due to drug abuse, various disorders associated with over usage of alcohol, nicotine, cannabis, tobacco, opium etc was explained to the students. The student secretary then created an awareness among the members on the various aspects of HIV and AIDS like origin ,causes of HIV, the modes of transmission, clinical symptoms, tests employed for the detection, treatment and prevention.
Training programme on First Aid
A Training programme on First Aid was organized for the members on Aug 20th 2016.The trainer was Mr.Santhosh Peter D Souza, Red Cross Officer and a renowned lawyer. He trained the students on different aspects of First Aid like principles of First Aid, structure and functions of human body, care of burns and wounds, dealing with heart attacks, suffocation,fractures,epilepsy, stroke,electrical shock etc.
World AIDS day
To commemorate the World AIDS day the Red Cross society organized different activities in the months of Nov and Dec 2016:
- Quiz on the topic "HIV and AIDS Awareness".
- Slogan writing on the topic "Importance of blood donation".
- Awareness on the "Significance of World AIDS Day" through dance-drama
- Prayer service on the PAS.
Visit to Sneha Sadan
The members of the Red Cross Society along with the staff coordinator visited Sneha Sadan, a rehabilitation centre for AIDS victims on December 17th 2016.
Sneha Sadan is a Camillian Care Home for people living with HIV/AIDS. This centre has been rendering services to the infected and affected victims of HIV. The students of the Red Cross Society organized an entertainment programme, distributed gifts, shared lunch and interacted with the inmates of Sneha Sadan.
Blood Donation Camp
The Red Cross Society in association with NSS Units, Fr. Muller Medical College Hospital, United Friends Club, Bejai and the Lions Club of Mangalore organized a one day Blood Donation Camp on 28th January 2017 in the College auditorium. The Principal of the College Prof. Dr.Sr. Jeswina A.C inaugurated the camp along with the President of United Friends Club and Lions club, the Staff Coordinator of AIDS Awareness Education Cell Mrs. Prajwal Rao H and the NSS Units Dr. Udaya Kumar B and Ms. Anitha
Dr. Kirana Pailoor, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Pathology, Fr. Muller Medical College Hospital addressed the gathering on the importance of blood donation. Prof. Sr. Jeswina, the Principal of the college then motivated the students to donate blood and declared the camp open.
A team of 13 medical personnel from Fr. Muller Medical College Hospital, student secretaries and the volunteers helped in conducting the camp successfully. Approximately 200 enthusiastic members from St. Agnes College, Lions Club, United Friends Club and the localites came forward to donate blood. But many were rejected due to various health reasons like low hemoglobin content, under weight and over age. Many students donated blood and helped in saving lives.
Apart from the above mentioned activities, the student members were actively involved in group discussion, Seminar presentations, on various topics like, Care of the girl child, Communal harmony, Natural calamities, significance of Geneva Convention Day ,Health and hygiene etc.
